The La Quinta Resort offers the resort guest championship golf that is on par with Pebble Beach, Sea Island, Pinehurst and the other elite enclaves of the golf resort gendre. On the grounds of the resort you will need to ply your skills on Pete Dye’s two master pieces, The Mountain Course and the Dunes Course. Each has it different style that has been recognized by Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, The PGA Tour and serious golfers from around the world.
And, after you have met the challenge on the Dunes and Mountain courses…you will want to sharpen your game at PGA WEST, the Western Home of Golf in America. The resort courses at PGA WEST were designed by Nicklaus, Norman and the icon of western golf, The Stadium Course at PGA WEST by Pete Dye. These courses have a fabled history with the Stadium Course being one of the original venues of the Skins Game when Nicklaus, Palmer and Trevino ruled the Kingdom. On the 16th hole of the Stadium Course our only comment is don’t be left. The 20 foot deep bunker runs down the left side of the fairway on this par 5 and has sent many a golfer to the 19th hole with stories of disaster and despair. Rumor has it that the tour players would rather hold their Sunday meetings on a less demanding course so that their mortal side is not highlighted on national television.
But the real golf and the golf lifestyle begins when you leave the resort courses and gain entry to the secluded world of the private club courses of La Quinta. The illustrious roll call begins with the original La Quinta Country Club, where President Eisenhower spent many a winter day away from the White House, The Tradition, where Arnie has been know to hang his hat, The Citrus, where you might see Lee Trevino on the range, Mountain View, The Hideaway, the private courses at The Club at PGA WEST, where the Bob Hope Classic is celebrated each year and of course, the very private club The Palms with its outstanding private course designed by Freddy Couples and Brian Curley, where Freddy is always expected on the tee or in the clubhouse. To pass these guarded gates and visit these hallowed grounds you will need to be the guest of a member or ask your Sales Executive of our La Quinta Associates “to show you the money”, the grand lifestyle and the tradition that is practiced at these private courses and clubhouses.
In addition, to tell you how serious we about golf here in La Quinta, the city just paid $45,000,000 for 500 acres of spectacular land in La Quinta up against the Santa Rosa mountains to build two city golf courses that should be designed by Mr. Palmer since the site is so close to his desert retreat.
